The Aaron Mokoena Foundation
"I launched my Foundation with the aspiration of making a real sustainable difference for young people in South Africa using the power of football"
The Aaron Mokoena Foundation established by Aaron Mokoena, was launched as a not for profit organisation in South Africa and in the UK in 2009. Aaron is the youngest ever capped player for South Africa and is currently playing for English FA Premier League Club Portsmouth FC.
The inspiration for the Foundation is Aaron's desire to increase and improve opportunities for children and young people across South Africa using the power of football to impact on education, health and life opportunities.
Underpinning the Foundation's ethos is an understanding of the role football can play, not only in creating and improving the skills and performance of young players but also the key role football can play in a uniquely broader role in society by bringing communities together.
In the year in which South Africa hosts the 2010 World Cup, the Foundation will seek to work in partnership with a broad range of organisations, to shape, design and deliver a range of safe, stimulating and exciting opportunities targeting young people.
Our challenge will be to build on the momentum of the event to create a lasting legacy which can assist in propelling South Africa to new heights.
We plan to consult with a wide range of key stakeholders from a variety of fields so as to gain an understanding in regards to the level of interest, participation and partnership opportunities. We are keen to listen and learn using the information gleaned to feed and underpin the strategic planning process.
During 2009/10 the Foundation will focus on:
In celebration of the 2010 Fifa World Cup the Foundation will organise a number of events leading up to the tournament. These include:

The Foundation will seek to form alliances with partners that bring physical, financial and human capital resources that can provide added value to the Foundation in meeting its identified goals. The Foundation will seek to work in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector partners through the merger of complementary assets.
The long-term aim of the Foundation is to develop, design and manage a range of projects that are aligned to its organisational vision and mission. The Foundation will be innovative, modern and responsive breaking new barriers in services delivery, establishing high quality delivery standards whilst defining measurable outputs and deliverables.
